At the planning stage he objected unsuccessfully to Dransfield\u2019s disastrous proposals to remove the glazed arcade\u2014the glory and the only redeeming feature of the Merrywalks Centre.<\/p>\n<p>But even he was taken aback by the sudden decision late last year to tear up the approved plans and introduce an indoor market.
