And, after a long hi\u00e4tus due to government policy, it\u2019s building again, with new houses in Stroud, Nailsworth and elsewhere, and a new sheltered housing scheme in Nailsworth.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This session will seek to explore Stroud\u2019s proud history in the provision of council housing, the impact of the Right to Buy, Stroud\u2019s exceptionalism in choosing to retain its stock, and the new housing now being built. Architect <strong>David Austin<\/strong> will describe the 2019 Stirling Prize-winning Goldsmith Street council housing in Norwich, built to the passivhaus standard, which he has visited, while <strong>Tim Mars<\/strong> will highlight some of the remarkable new council housing now being built by local authorities around the country. Council housing is once again among the finest new housing being built anywhere. [Further speakers to be confirmed.]<\/em><\/p>\n<p>This meeting will be at the Congregational Church Hall (adjacent to the Subscription Rooms) \u2013 Bedford Street, Stroud, Gloucestershire, GL5 1AY starting at 7.30pm.<\/p>\n<p>Admission is free to members and \u00a32 to non members.<\/p>\n<p>Please note there is no parking at the church. The church website relates: \u201cWe recommend London Road car park, as it\u2019s a level walk to the church. Stroud can be quite steep in places.
