Welcome to our Winter programme which includes a specially interesting talk from two of our Committee members, David Austin and Tim Mars. Our Christmas visit includes two houses, one, Pitzhanger Manor, a highly praised restoration and the other, Sir John Soane Museum, home to the critically acclaimed Hogarth exhibition.

Following feedback from our members we are experimenting with holding meetings on a Saturday afternoon, so members no longer have to turn out on dark, cold nights. Please let us know what you think even if you can’t come to the talk.

We look forward to seeing you on November 30th when you will be able to enjoy tea or coffee and cake after the talk.

Milton Keynes at 50: From monorail metropolis to Little-Los-Angeles-in-Bucks

September 23, 2017

A tour of Little-Los-Angeles-in-Bucks on the 50th anniversary of its designation as a new town—led by Tim Mars.

Tim first encountered MK in the 1970s and was so unexpectedly intrigued and beguiled that he finally took the plunge and moved there with his family in the mid-1980s. He has watched this unique and strange ‘non-place urban realm’ grow and evolve almost from the beginning—when there was very little of it there—both as a fascinated spectator and as a resident.

The Dictionary of Urbanism describes Tim as a ‘sceptical enthusiast for Milton Keynes’.

Tim has written a full description of the trip – available as a pdf document by clicking HERE.  A booking form is now available by clicking HERE.

Coach departs Stroud Leisure Centre at 8:30am, returning 8pm. The coach has a toilet, but we will have a short pitstop for coffee en route. The coach will always be on hand for who can’t or don’t want to come on the walking parts of the tour.
