Tim Mars will look at Dransfield Properties’ ambitious plans for the Five Valleys centre and ask why these have changed so radically—even while work was well under way.
Tim has closely followed Dransfield’s redevelopment proposals from well before the first public exhibition of the plans in June 2018. At the planning stage he objected unsuccessfully to Dransfield’s disastrous proposals to remove the glazed arcade—the glory and the only redeeming feature of the Merrywalks Centre.
But even he was taken aback by the sudden decision late last year to tear up the approved plans and introduce an indoor market. Why this dramatic about-face so late in the day?
